SUMMER READING
The Outsiders, the novel A coming-of-age novel by S. E. Hinton, first published in 1967. The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs, who are divided by their socioeconomic status. This novel allows students to read a fictional story while exploring many issues many of us currently experience or see on the news daily.
This well-known title is extremely rich in imagery, symbolism, character development, as well as literary allusions. The novel tells the story of a 14-year old boy and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. It discusses how one's socioeconomic level does not determine how "easy" or "tough" life could be. |
